Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ to host Rwandan National Debate Team Sept. 23
Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ will host an hour-long debate with the Rwandan National Debate Team on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

DALLAS (Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ) – Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ will host an hour-long debate with the Rwandan National Debate Team on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m in room 241 of the Umphry Lee Center, 3300 Dyer Street, on the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ campus.
The University has been chosen as one of 20 stops the Rwandan National Debate Team will make on their second edition of the “Voices From A Post Genocide Generation Tour” in the United States.
The topic of the debate Wednesday is “The United States should significantly reduce its military presence in the Greater Horn of Africa.” The Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ debate team will argue for the negative and the Rwandan debate team will argue for the affirmative. Current Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ debaters Katie Snyder ’18 and Nashin Kuraishi ’15 will represent Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ.
The debate is free and open to the public.
Attendees will have to opportunity to share their own ideas and opinions on the topic after the debate. Both judges and audience members will determine the winner and results will be announced at the end of the hour.

Created by the and the Communication Studies division in 2008, Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s award-winning debate program participates in competitions based on intense research concerning important national and international policy questions such as immigration, energy and human rights. Students participate in tournament debate to test themselves against the best advocates at colleges and universities around the nation.
Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ's debate program has a unique service emphasis that promotes debate as a civic virtue. Service learning connected to the debate program brings students in contact with Dallas Independent School District (DISD) students associated with the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance. The Alliance, in collaboration with Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ debate, prepares at-risk students in DISD for debate at a variety of special events hosted on the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ campus.
