Author and conservationist William deBuys recently received the annual David J. Weber-William P. Clements Prize, from Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s Clements Center for Southwest Studies, for his book "A Great Aridness: Climate Change and the Future of the American Southwest (Oxford University Press, 2011). The book recently was touted by the Dallas Morning News as an editorial hit.

The late Texas Gov. William P. Clements had a passion for the Southwest, which is why Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ’s Clements Center for Southwest Studies gives an annual book prize for the best nonfiction book on the region. This year’s award goes to author William deBuys, whose A Great Aridness: Climate Change and the Future of the American Southwest alerts readers to the realities of a Southwest that lacks enough water to grow. The New Mexico writer also calls attention to the havoc that a changing climate could bring to the area.
